Love::SADE

you think i'd leave your side baby
you know me better than that
you think i'd leave you down when you're down on your knees
i wouldn't do that
i'll tell you you're right when you want
and if only you could see into me

oh when you're cold
i'll be there
hold you tight to me

when you're on the outside baby and you can`t get in
i will show you you're so much better than you know
when you're lost and you're alone and you can't get back again
i will find you darling and i will bring you home

and if you want to cry
i am here to dry your eyes
and in no time
you'll be fine

you think i'd leave your side baby
you know me better than that
you think id leave you down when you're down on your knees
i wouldn't do that
i'll tell you you're right when you (want)
and if only you could see into me

oh when you're cold
i'll be there
hold you tight to me
when you're low
i'll be there
by your side baby

Calling All Jazz Singers

If you're in the mood for some jazz, head on over to The Dresden Restaurant and Lounge in Los Feliz (Los Angeles) on Tuesday nights for open mic night.

On first glance, the outside of The Dresden looks retro and a bit kitsch. Although, once you step through the doors, you feel as if you've stepped into a time machine and landed in old Hollywood.
In the center of the room sits a large piano, bordered by bar seating, accompanied by a bass and a set of drums. Marty and Elayne are the famous jazz couple that have been playing here every night for more than 20 years, and who happily provide the jazz tunes as the average-joes take over the mic for the duration of the evening. But don't be fooled by these every-day-folk...they really know how to belt out a tune!

So if old Hollywood jazz is your thing, be sure to check out The Dresden Lounge (open Monday-Saturday, 9pm-1.15am)

Life, The Remix

Have you ever started singing along to a song on the radio only to realize that it's not the song you were thinking of, but off by just a few beats?

That's because it's all been done before. We basically live in a culture of remake. Movie plots are predictable, fashion fads come back into style, and even old tunes are remixed to make new hits. We've all heard Rihanna's rendition of Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Starting Something", or T.I. and Rihanna singing the chorus from the Numa Numa song (original version by O-Zone), and most recently, Flo Rida's use of the 90s hit song "Blue" (Eiffel 65). No wonder we recognize all the hits on the radio! They are all old beats, just presented in new ways! Talk about easy-listening...we don't even have to think about what we are hearing since, subconsciously, we know it all already.

Have we lost a sense of authenticity and originality, or are these new products to be considered "real and authentic" in themselves?

Cuz I'm Feeling Hella Good

What better way to start off the summer than with a concert??
The '09 summer is host to some great new bands (think The Ting Tings, Lily Allen, Lady Gaga), while at the same time bringing back some oldies but goodies (think AC/DC, Phish, The Eagles).

But the tour I'm most excited about is :::drum roll please::: ....No Doubt! Because I have no doubt that they will rock the stage even if it's been more than 5 years since they've been on tour! They kick off their national tour today in Florida, and will play one stage at a time until they've made it back to the West Coast. California concert dates begin July 21 and go until August 5 (in case any fellow Angelenos are looking for tickets!)

Even though Gwen has a blossoming solo career, a clothing and perfume line, a husband and two babies, I'm happy to hear that she and the band have come together to create another album, and are rocking steady once again.

Everyone wants to be found

When I think of that phrase "lost in translation", I immediately think of Scarlett and Bill sitting at a fancy Tokyo hotel bar bored, lost and lonely.

And I have to say, I'm beginning to feel the same way.

But I'm not in Tokyo. In fact, I'm in the City of Angels (which I can loosely call home). I'm not in a foreign country. I do speak the language. I do know my way around. This is where I grew up. This is my city...and yet, it's not at all. English is flying over my head and I'm dazed. What is this foreign land they call LA?
